The ZDM social programme unit is housed at the Municipal Health Care Center known as Princess Mandisi Health Care Centre. This was the ZDM initiative of addressing the serious increase rate of HIV/AIDS in the district.  Princess Mandisi Health Care Centre has the following intervention programme:

1. AIDS COUNCIL

  • ZDM Aids Council(DAC)was officially launched on 14 December 2007
  • ZDM has assisted local municipalities to launch their Aids Council
  • ZDM HIV /AIDS unit has started organizing ward aids committee, (WAC), All 81 wards will have their WAC established by the end of next year.

2. HIV AIDS PROGRAMME

  • Voluntary testing and council (VCT )
  • Health Education to youth in schools and in schools.
  • On- going counseling for the affected and infected
  • Community HIV/AIDS awareness

3. CARE AND SUPPORT PROGRAMME

  • Support group - We have an active group of 22 members which meets every month at the centre. This is a platform where PLWHA (People living with HIV/AIDS) share their fears, challenges and other problems relating to stigma and discrimination.
  • Garden project - The centre has a wonderful vegetable garden to assist local needy households especially the child headed. We have 14 people working in that 2 hector garden.

4. LOVE LIFE PROGRAMME:

  • The partnership between ZDM and LOVELIFE TRUS IS GROWING.
  • 10 Youth is employed at the centre to implement the make your move campaign in school which is the concept of educating young people to assist them in making informed decisions and eradicate teenage pregnancy.
  • ZDM has already enrolled 20 schools into the programme, 18 schools have finished and graduated.
  • ZDM has recruited youth into the campaign for 2010.
